The Spiral Story

A strong connection to the community

Born and raised in Hastings

Amy and Nick have always felt a strong connection to this town and its community. Although they left to attend college, they were drawn back home by their family and friends. When they returned, they felt a renewed sense of loyalty and responsibility to this unique river town, but how to give back did not become clear for a few years.

When Amy and Nick took vacations they realized they were spending more and more time detouring from their planned routes to visit breweries. Eventually, these brewery pilgrimages became the focus of their trips as they developed first an admiration, then a true love for craft beer. In 2013 Amy, Jen, and Nick were discussing their mutual love for both the Hastings community and the craft beer movement when lightning struck. “You know what this town needs?” And what better way to pay homage to the town then to name the brewery after the iconic, historic Spiral Bridge.

Over the next three years this dream became a reality through countless hours of research and planning, but it was still missing one key factor: a brewer.

In 2014 Amy and Nick reconnected with college friends Claire and Luke who had been homebrewing, judging competitions, and competing in them for almost a decade. Upon Luke’s completion of the Craft Brewers Apprentice Program through the American Brewers Guild, the team was finally complete.
